What She Really Wants

(還是抄襲上次一同到Barnes and Noble翻雜誌時在男性雜誌上看到的Valentine's Day Gifts 101...)

What She Really Wants

BY WENDY KORN HEPPT

Of course, it's the thought that counts... good reason to start thinking now, since pickings are slim at Victoria's Secret and Hallmark on Feb. 13, the day most men do their Valentine's Day shopping.

Perfume and facials are no-brainers; roses and a Whitman's sampler can seem like afterthoughts. How can men really express their admiration? Start with loads of hugs, kisses and hand-holding, then add a gift that you gave some thought to. Don't know where to begin? Take some tips from these New York City women, who told us what they really want.

WHAT I WANT:

FOR MY BOYFRIEND TO PROPOSE AT ONE OF THOSE ROMANTIC PLACES YOU SEE IN THE MOVIES

Susan Simon, 28, insurance broker from Manhattan

WHERE TO ASK: New York is home to many of the world's most iconic locations, all perfect places for you to pop the question. Consider the top of the Empire State Building (350 Fifth Ave., 212-736-3100, www.esbnyc.com); Top of the Rock, the observation deck atop the 70-story 30 Rockefeller Plaza (212-698-2000, www.topoftherocknyc.com); the Brooklyn Bridge, or in a horse-drawn carriage through Central Park (approximately $34 for the first half hour).

WHAT I WANT:

TO BE WINED AND DINED

Nina Kaufman, 41, attorney from Murray Hill

At press time these romantic restaurants still had a table for two: Manhattan: What's more romantic than a meal you can share? Dip Bar & Lounge's three-course fondue dinner includes Champagne or wine for $60 per person (416 Third Ave., 212-481-1712, www.Dipnyc.com).

The Bronx: Le Refuge Inn, a French restaurant and bed-and-breakfast, has a three-course Valentine's prix fixe for $65 per person (586 City Island Ave., 718-885-2478).

Brooklyn: At Saul, owner/chef Saul Bolton, formerly of Le Bernardin, is serving a six-course tasting menu for $85 per person (140 Smith St., 718-935-9844, www.saulrestaurant.com).

Queens: Manducatis, a famed Italian joint in Long Island City near the Midtown Tunnel, has a special Valentine's Day à la carte menu (13-27 Jackson Ave., 718-729-4602, www.manducatis.com).

Staten Island: Angelina's Ristorante is offering its regular menu and giving ladies a New York Lottery ticket as a Valentine's Day gift (26 Jefferson Blvd., 718-227-7100).

WHAT I WANT:

TO FEEL SEXY AND ROMANTIC

Vicky Morales, 27, salesgirl and aspiring model from the Bronx

WHAT TO BUY HER: Fantasy Island in a Box, a 300-thread count, queen-size sheet monogrammed with the word "love," rose petals, a heart-shaped candle, a lace garter belt and a romantic music CD in a fancy red box. $109 at www.femailcreations.com.

Or head over to Victoria's Secret, for its lace-trim baby doll and panty (in red, turquoise, ivory or black) - it flatters whether she's rail thin or voluptuous ($24.50). Pair it with the store's Valentine's specials, such as Sexy Little Things Eau de Parfum Spray (the box whistles at you when you open it, $39).

At Roxanne in Forest Hills, red satin and black lace baby dolls run in sizes S-3X for $49 (105-11 Metropolitan Ave., 718-263-2526).

WHAT I WANT:

AN ALL-DAY PLAY DATE

Terri Lewis, 47, restaurant manager from Staten Island

WHERE TO TAKE HER: a day trip to Woodbury Commons so she can pick out her own gifts. Board the Express Trails charter bus at Penn Station, $30 round trip. (www.expresstrails.com/schedule).

Does your lady love celebs? Go Hollywood in New York with an On Location tour of famous New York sites. Visit more than 60 famous spots, including Grace's design studio on "Will & Grace," the "Friends" apartment building and more. Meets daily at 11 a.m. in front of Ellen's Stardust Diner, 51st St. and Broadway. $32, 31/2 hours, reserve at (212) 683-2027 or visit www.screentours.com.

WHAT I WANT:

SOMETHING SWEET THAT WON'T RUIN MY DIET

Janice Taylor, 53, weight-loss coach from Harlem

WHAT TO BUY HER: The "I Taste Like Sugar" miniature lip gloss set is a dessert for her lips. Twelve shades smell and taste like sugary cookies. $28 at Sephora stores. Or ditch the heart-shaped box and pick up some CocoaVia Chocolate Snack Bars. They're only 80 calories each, plus they've been shown to lower cholesterol levels in a recent American Dietetic Association study. The magic ingredient is plant sterols. Five-pack, $4.99; a case of six five-packs (30 bars) is $24.99 at drugstore.com.

WHAT I WANT:

MY HUSBAND TO HELP MORE AROUND THE HOUSE

Sherlinda Medina, 37, legal secretary from Woodhaven

WHAT TO BUY: Do her a favor and do the dishes! Then make it last with the iRobot Roomba Red Vacuuming Robot. This vacuum actually counts as a gift because the Roomba (one of Oprah's favorite things) cleans on its own. $149.99 at www.irobot.com or Circuit City.

Up the ante with a gift certificate for Maid For You New York, ranging from $100 to clean a studio to $125 for two bedrooms. Valentine's Day special: Buy five cleanings, get the sixth free. 1-888-361-6243, www.maidforyounewyork.com .

WHAT I WANT:

SOMETHING IN "THAT LITTLE BLUE BOX"

Lorraine Jackson, 51, mediator from Brooklyn

WHAT TO BUY HER: Relax, you can pick up a bauble bearing the Tiffany stamp for under $200. Tiffany lock charms clip onto a chain, a bracelet, even your jacket or purse. Styles include the Return to Tiffany Heart and Tiffany Blue Box, starting at $100. Paloma Picasso's Tenderness heart ring is $190, the Two Heart pendant is $150 and Elsa Peretti Open Heart drop earrings are $195.

WHAT I WANT:

TO FEEL PAMPERED

Georgi Fruhling, 67, personnel manager from Forest Hills, Queens

WHAT TO BUY HER: The Basic Purification Program at the Juvenex Spa is a great deal; it includes the igloo sauna, herbal steam, rainforest shower, Japanese soaking tub, baked-clay detox, salt glow scrub, hair treatment, gentle facial cleansing, cucumber mask plus a 30-minute massage (two hours, $145). Open 24 hours (25 W. 32nd St., 646-733-1330, www.juvenexspa.com).

WHAT I WANT:

TO DO SOMETHING BESIDES WATCH TV

Margie Rodriguez, 42, human resources director from Glen Oaks, Queens

WHERE TO TAKE HER: Ice Skating: Central Park's Wollman Rink is open until 10 p.m. on Valentine's Day ($9.50 per person, 212-439-6900, www.wollmanskatingrink.com).

Roller-skating: Wednesday is Roller Disco night at The Roxy, 8 p.m.-2 a.m., $18 per person, $5 skate rental (515 W. 18th St., 212-645-5156).
